Follow up on that glued in bulkhead splice. Now reenforce it with wide tabs making them smaller as you add layers....like 5-7 layers of bidirectional fiberglass with good epoxy on both sides as wide and long as you can go. West Marine has an informative Fiberglass Boat Repair & Maintenance West System Book 002-550. Worth every penny.

Watch some of us drone builders to learn how to solder. Having good quality 60/30 solder will make it easier. Also using plenty of flux will help.

You need lots of acid free flux when soldering. Don't listen to anyone who says you shouldn't solder cables, you can. The cables must never get that hot to melt it!!!!! if they do get that hot then something is very wrong. The marine environment will only attack solder joints if the flux is an acid type. Use acid free flux, then solder the joint, cover with silicon then heat shrink. If you use the correct size cable and allow for volt drop and inrush current all should be fine. Better still, have a continuous unbroken length. You can can also use Wagos and Wiska box's for jointing. Always install an inline fuse for overload and fault protection as close to the power source as possible for every circuit. Its always better to use new cable rather then trying to clean up old stuff. When calculating cable size, add up the watts (load) and divide by the voltage, this will tell you the amperage and loading of the circuit. Then select the relevant size cable and fuse according to the regulations. Best advise, get a qualified marine electrician to do this type of work. Good luck

James Wharram, with his years of experience, designed these catamarans, carefully calculating their structure, taking into account the stresses to which they will be subjected by the ostilities of the ocean. you ruined the bulkhead structure, You have put an absurd amount of weight on the deck, you invented a ridiculous mast base, the crossbeam that you installed is not suitable for that type of catamaran, and compromises its structure, obviously you do not understand anything about the structural design and the specific beamlashings of the Tiki catamarans, in short, too many unnecessary errors. You are not fixing a tiki catamaran, you are ruining it. You are in time to ask for advice from someone who does know. The quality and seaworthiness of your boat is proportional to the respect you have for the sea. Who does not respect the sea is because does not know it. The sea has no compassion for ignorance It's your life friend

For the future, Solder iron needed a new tip. "Tin" the tip and use that solder to help tranfer heat to the wire. The alternators use stator powered by the batteries. They'll adjust the voltage for charge based on the battery voltage. So when the battery is full the alternators will not put out as much voltage. Two batteries prevent the alternators from throwing each other off and over/under charging because they can't tell the difference between the battery and other alternator. If you don't need the charging amperage, you could just disconnect the alternator in one engine until you're ready for another battery. I'm assume you have plans to expand your battery setup later for solar. You'll need a dc to dc charger if you plan on running your engines off the same circuit as the solar bank.

  • @iainurquhart7606

I won't say that you're pronouncing the word wrong, because our Daniel Webster deliberately altered the spelling and pronunciation of some words when he wrote the first American Dictionary to emphasize the difference between Americans and British. So, we pronounce it sodder (silent "L"). Perhaps you have the right pronunciation for the UK - I don't know. Two peoples separated by a common language! I was thinking about your bulkhead repair. I believe you're right that most of any forces on it will be either compression or tension. I would have wanted to make the connection more mechanically sound - tongue and groove, or step and scarf. But i tend to over-engineer and build more heavily. If it breaks, you can fix it differently. Separate batteries for the engines appeals to me because of the redundancy that creates. Or, feed the alternator outputs through a voltage regulator - I'm sure such are made, though I've never had to investigate.

For beds, slats is the way, cheap and cheerful will do! I had the same problem and solved it a few years ago by replacing the bed boards with bog standard 2" x 1" PAR (44 x 20 mm for metric types) of cheap pine. They are laid flat and crosswise with a 44 mm gap between each, arranged in easy lift-out sections for your boat. I didn't even paint them! Still good after six or seven years.
